On Aug. 31, 2013 we began our mission trip to Gallup New
Mexico!
Jeff Rogers, Gail Rogers, Larry Dennison, Rita Dennison,
Philip Ingram, Elaine Ingram, Lavern Smith, Judy Taylor, Kim Wethington, Alex
Hahn, Jarred Mattingly, Theresa Rohr, and David Hahn were all part of the team
this year.
The journey took three days of driving with overnight
stops along the way.
The first night - Cornerstone Baptist Church at Cabot AK.
near Little Rock, Pastor Dale Bonner.
The second night – South Georgia Baptist Church, Amarillo
TX. With Music Director Jeb Humphrey. We stayed overnight at the church camp.
Third night - we arrived in Gallup where we checked in at
the Rehoboth Christian School guest dormitory where we stayed for the duration.
The first day at Gallup, Tuesday, we all shared a morning
devotional led by Jarred Mattingly. After a full breakfast cooked by the
ladies, some of the team drove to the work project sites to assess labor and
material needs.
The evening was spent ministering in music with our music
group “The Kentuckians” at Tohachie Baptist Church. Bro. Aaron Jim pastors the Native American
church there.
Wednesday began with another great breakfast cooked by
the ladies and a devotional led by David Hahn. The day was spent doing work
projects by some of the group, while others did prayer walking in the historic part
of downtown Gallup. Several ministering contacts were made that day. In the
evening we did music ministry at the Gallup Church of God, a Navajo
congregation. We were well received and fully blessed.
Thursday morning we had breakfast together with a
devotional led by Theresa Rohr. Today, some of our team feeling quiet worn,
felt they were trying to adjust to the thin air in this high altitude area.
Nevertheless, some returned to the project work. Others of us returned to
prayer walking which again resulted in unexpected encounters. We trust God for
working through us. The evening was spent at the Ft. Wingate Middle School entertaining
and ministering to the young students with music.
Friday after breakfast and morning devotionals led by
David Hahn, we all drove to Iyanbito Reservation visiting with some of the
Native Americans there. Then we traveled to Window Rock Navajo Tribal Park, Az.
where there was an annual gathering of Native Americans of many different
nations. That evening we sang and ministered at Wingate Baptist Church. Not
many attended but it was a good service.
Saturday was basically a rest day. Everyone seemed quite
tired and needed to be recharged.
Sunday Sept. 8 was the last day before beginning our
return home. We were originally scheduled to be at Wingate Baptist for morning
service however, services there had to be cancelled because of a water outage
at the church. Pastor Eddie Goodin was able to schedule us at the First Indian Baptist
Church in Gallup instead. Pastor Mark Chapman was very cordial along with the
congregation. It was a blessed time.
Monday morning at about 7:00 am we all began our trip
home. It had been a good mission trip. As usual we are trusting that God worked
through us. This experience effected us in a way that made us wish we could
have done more. There seems to be so much needed by these Native American
people.
After three days travel we arrived safely home Wed. Sept.
11, 2013 at 5:50 pm.

Sept. 2012
Mission to Gallup New Mexico
Our September mission trip
to Gallup New Mexico was certainly a great experience.
On the morning of Sept. 29th,
2012, six of us started the 1500 mile trip to Gallup NM and nearby
destinations. Included in the group was Bob Ackridge, Philip Ingram, David
Hahn, Laverne Smith,
Rita and Larry Dennison.
The purpose of the trip was
to build relationships with local Native Americans, (mostly Navajo). This was
accomplished through music and help projects.
On the trip we received
wonderful overnight accommodations the first night by Zion Baptist Church in
Cabot Arkansas with pastor Terry Fortney. The second night we stayed in
Amarillo, Texas at the South Georgia Baptist Church. Bro Jedd Humphrey and his
wife Marilyn, hosted us there very graciously. We stayed the night at the
church camp facility a few miles from the church. The third day we arrived at
Tohatchie NM. Pastor Ahren Jim and his wife Lynette of the Tohatchie Baptist
Church met us. We stayed two nights with them at the church. We were with them
for Sunday morning service with their mostly Native American congregation. Bro.
Tim Colvin a pastor from W. Virginia preached the morning message. He had met
with us there to work the mission with us.
The remainder of our time
was spent at Wingate NM. We stayed at Wingate Baptist Church hosted by Pastor
Eddie Gooden and his wife Carol. During our stay we accomplished several work
projects for local Native Americans
arranged by Pastor Eddie. On one project, David Hahn was given the opportunity
to lead a Native man to the Lord. Pastor Eddie was to follow up with him later.
We did several music events
as well. David Hahn, Larry Dennison, and Philip Ingram did group singing. Tim
Colvin was also included in the music presentations. We sang at churches, An
Alcohol Rehab Facility, and the Wingate Middle School. We were well received
everywhere as we sang Gospel songs and shared testimonies.
This was certainly a
successful trip by any measure. Though exhausting in some ways, it was
refreshing in others. We trust that the Kingdom of God was increased in
quantity and quality.
