M & M’s                           Plain Truth

April 2011

Hau kola,

As we write this letter we are reeling with excitement about what God is doing here with our summer camp program. As some already know, we recently learned that the 40 acres we were planning on fell through. As you know we had $7,000.00 set aside from an anonymous donor. However, after waiting for almost four months, I felt it was necessary to approach the people who had originally approached us about selling us the property. I let them know that I was at a point at which I would be sending the donor back their money, since I felt it was taking too long to complete the transaction despite the slowness at which things usually move around here. It was then that we found out that they were backing out of the deal. Evidently the father had forbid them to sell it and said that he wanted it. They were too embarrassed to face us with the disappointing news.

Since the whole process was taking so long we had feared that there might be a fly in the ointment. So we were casually looking at other possibilities since we could hear summer calling and were getting to the point that it would be difficult in this timeframe to have water, shelter for eating and a road into the property, just to name a few issues that would have to be overcome before the property could be used. One such place opened up. When we first saw it, it was already under contract to another organization. However, in the middle of all this confusion (we were confused, God wasn’t) the realtor called and said it became available again. It is 83 acres with a cabin, three bay garage, already fenced in with a good road into it. It has good water and electric already run to it. It is located right on the same road as the church (12 miles north) and borders the Badlands National Park, so we would have access to thousands of acres for hiking and camping, not to mention it would not require near the set up that the other property would have required in order to make it camp ready. It also gives us a place to live right off so that Kurt and Paula will have the parsonage when they come onboard with us this summer to be a part of the ministry.

As you know last summer we had 52 adolescent suicides in this community. In the middle of this last summer I was ready to throw my hands up and quit. I asked God, “How can I reach them if you won’t even keep them alive for me to reach them?” After expressing this heart broke confusion to an old friend, he asked me, “Where were you again when God laid the foundation of the Earth?” With that slap on the back of my head and a renewed ambition, I decided that as a slave of Christ I would do everything I could do for Him at this place, in the time that is left.

The bottom line is this; an Anglo, widowed lawyer, owns the place. She is willing to make incredible concessions for us if we can come up with $20,000.00 by April 29th, to help her move into town as she is ageing and this area is quite remote. It would be possible to still be ready for this summer. This will give the youth a safe positive place to escape to for the summer.

If you feel God burden your heart for this reservation, then please help. We believe in asking God and then telling His people. I cannot bear another 52 children committing suicide this summer. I know

these are tough times, but we are still called to keep pressing forward.

We see God clearly working here in ways we would never have imagined and have never seen before. We raised the $20,000.00 in less than a week and a half. God’s faithful continue to send in funds yet; we will still need additional funds for such things as bathroom and shower facilities, games and balls, more tipis and plenty of help. It is times like these that I am held to obey every word that I have preached to others. I rely not on my own understanding but have an incredible assurance that God never lets down His water-walkers, those who long to do the impossible for God. If you’re tired of being a boat potato won’t you take a stroll with us? Remember, if you’re not living on the edge for Jesus you’re taking up too much room.

So much to say, and not much room to say it in! As Mike has already mentioned, much has occurred this past month. In addition to all the news about the property, we had a group in from Iowa, Colorado, and Kansas. The photo to the right is of the Derby, Kansas group. This particular photo was taken at a gorgeous overlook on Sheep Mountain, a place not too far from the soon to be camp property!

While the Kansas group was here they made short work out of restaining the handicap ramp and steps at the church, as well as doing some other painting inside, installing a new piece of carpet in the entryway, put a handrail in the stairwell, and framing in a carport for additional food pantry storage. Speaking of food pantry, they also restocked that while they were here! We praise God for their generosity and faithfulness to the mission work here. They will be back out in June.

We want to thank all of you and pray God’s blessings for all who gave so generously and prayed for this new camp endeavor!

Blessings – Monica

                Plain Truth

  Hau kola,

We condensed the header because we need all the room we can get to show you as much detail as possible on the building project. It is an exciting time here! No wonder Satan is attacking us in so many fronts. It seems every time we minimize him and move forward, he retreats and mounts an attack on another front. We baptized six recently and need to baptize three more now! New believers are showing interest in active evangelism efforts and there is an understanding of the Word taking hold in the hearts and minds of our people.

It is no wonder why Jesus talked about money as much as He did. He knows it acts as a vehicle in this world and He knows that, quite often, this is where Satan’s forces will wage the battle. Therefore, we are so bold in Christ that we will press on with our plans to build an all purpose building. It will act as chapel, lunchroom, dorm space for workers, winter activities like hunting seminars for our Native men, men’s and women’s retreats, after school programs, snow camp when winter break comes, and the list goes on and on!  I will make a list of the pros so all can consider the value of this building.

I want to first thank Matt Hahn for all the work he has done on this project. Pray for him as he is in a battle with cancer right now. Please commit to pray daily for this true servant. I also want to introduce his father to you since he has been an integral part of this project. He is David Hahn retired from the Police Dept. Louisville KY, who is now a NAMB missionary as well, to the Canadian Indians. He resides in Kentucky and travels quite a bit. I am honored to know him and have his hands, head and heart in this project. Kurt’s building experience has been invaluable as well.

Our website is also close to being available. However, until then we can answer any questions you may have.

Why we need this:

It will be the only covered area we have in which to feed the children and escape inclement weather.

It will enable us to utilize the free school lunch program (they require a covered place).

It provides a chapel area with baptismal.

It provides a building in which to run year round activities for everyone.

It solves the problem of where to accommodate all the workers.

It provides a place to run after school program during the school year.

It provides the possibility of income from churches that wish to use it for seminars and such.

It gives us a kitchen for meal preparation.

It is an idea worthy of our calling.

We project we will need $40,000.00 to get the foundation and plumbing in the ground as the first step. We can then put together the teams to build the building. We have had many churches contact us with their commitment to help supply workers. The many godly men that are already involved give me great confidence that God will bring it to fruition. We need this for summer camp, at least in a usable form.

Bro. Mike & Monica Brennan and sons, and Bro. Kurt and Paula Langworthy and sons, and Etta and I and many others have been praying about this building and feel God is leading us to build it.  We ask that you pray and ask God to lead you as to what portion of this building you could help with.
